Our growers work hard around the clock, every day of the week, to make sure that our clients and consumers have a continual supply of delicious produce.
Their efforts mean we can guarantee a stable supply of fresh mushrooms, soft fruit and veg throughout the year, whatever the weather or market circumstances. This is sometimes done in challenging circumstances, but always with a commitment to sustainability and stewardship of our environmental resources.
Our dedicated growers are passionate about their produce and have a long history of growing. It’s more than just a business – many of them are family operations spanning two or three generations.
Cappagh Mushrooms
Ballyheelan, Kilnaleck, Co. Cavan
The Goldrick family have been growing mushrooms in Co Cavan since 1988. The business was started in 1988 by 3 brothers, Declan, Gary and Aiden who, at the time, were 17,18,and 19 years old. They started off with 3 tunnels. Back then the mushrooms were grown on bags and all the packing and casing by hand had to be done after the day job in the evenings and at weekends. Their dad, Aiden senior and mother Elizabeth were always on hand with sound advice and manual labour!! Over the years, they progressed to 7 tunnels and Gary and Aiden pursued other businesses. Johnny joined Declan and in 2001 they updated to the shelving system and in 2010 the last 3 tunnels were erected bringing the total to 10.
